Deploy511.org
is a repository of information for the 511 deployment community.
The 511 Coalition, and to make it easier for you, the 511 deployers,
to share resources. The content of this site will help you to develop,
launch, publicize, maintain, evaluate, and improve your state's
or reg 511
has progressed rapidly since July 2000 when the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) designated 511 as the national travel information
number. The first 511 service was launched less than a year later
(June 2001) in Northern Kentucky, and by early 2005 twenty-five
511 systems had launched with several more on the cusp of launching.
The DEPLOYMENT
STATUS
section of this site will tell you where 511 service is in place
or planned.
Publicizing
511 services is a challenge for public agencies without large budgets
for advertising and public relations. Instead of starting from scratch,
why not borrow from a treasure trove of great ideas developed by
earlier deployers? The MARKETING
IDEAS section
included are market research
re
Coalition. The Coalition materials include downloadable logos and
artwork, a 511 brochure, exhibit panels, and standard PowerPoint
presentation modules covering a wide range of 511-related topics.
511
services are being developed frencies, in close collaboration with
ide
innovative 511 services specifically tailored to the needs of their
constituents, and resources from many organizations are harnessed
to deploy 511. To help promote consistency among 511 services and
avoid confusing the consumer, the 511 Deployment Coalition offers Implementation
and Operational Guidelines for 511 Services Version 3.0.
The
success of any new product or service depends on customer satisfaction.
Tracking system use and performance is vital. The Coalition tracks
nationwide 511 usage statistics, and monthly reports can be accessed
in the USAGE
AND EVALUATION section. That section
also includes a downloadable presentation on “Assessing Performance
and Customer Satisfaction” covering the basic questions of
what should and can be measured, how data can be collected, and
how nationwide assessment and evaluation guidelines can be developed.
The section also provides information on deployers' activities and
plans for 511 performance monitoring and evaluation.
The
511 Deployment Coalition is led by the American Association of State
Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO), in close cooperation
with the American Public Transit Association (APTA), the Intelligent
Transportation Society of America (ITS America), and the U.S. Department
of Transportation (DOT). More than 30 public agencies, industry
groups, industry associations, and private companies from around
the country participate. The intent is to implement 511 nationally
using a bottom-up approach facilitated by information sharing and
a cooperative dialogue through the national associations represented
on the Policy Committee, which is the governing body of the Coalition.
The REPORTS
AND MINUTES section of this site contains
the minutes of 511 Coalition Policy Committee and Working Group
Meetings, contact information for the members of these committees,
and the 511 Deployment Assistance Reports. The reports, written
by Coalition task forces and special committees, contain background,
analysis, and recommendations for action.
CONTACT
provides contact information for both marketing personnel and technical
personnel at organizations deploying 511 systems.
